Chapter 1: Dreary Beginning

It was a cold, dark morning, a soft drizzle lightly fell upon the earth as a young teen stepped in a puddle and cussed under his breath as he splashed water on his dark blue jeans. He brushed his dirty blond bangs from his eyes and behind his ear, under his dark green hoodie. The boy stood at five foot six inches tall, weighing approximately one hundred forty pounds, having a soft teal eye coloring, lightly tanned skin, and muscular yet not chiseled features.

“My mom is going to kill me” the boy mumbled to himself angrily.

He began running down a road towards a large hill, a rather large building sitting atop it. As he neared the base of the hill he noticed cars parked in a lot located about 40 meters east of the building, filled with other chattering teens in groups ranging from three teens to thirty teens. The boy came up to a group of six people standing around the stairs of the building, avoiding all the older looking teenagers. From the group the boy approached, one girl turned around, smiled, and hugged him gently.

She stood at five foot three, a slim, curvy figure, long, flowing brown hair, slightly pale skin, dark, deep green eyes, and a warm smile on her face

“Hi Roy” the girl said softly.

“Hi Emily” he replied, annoyed slightly by the boy who had turned around behind her to face them.

The new boy stood at five foot seven inches, had dark blond hair that curled slightly at the ends, had a thin, slightly boney figure, with bright blue eyes.

“Hey Roy” the new boy said with a slight smugness, the girl hugged him and held onto his side gently and smiled more.

“I love you Derek.” Emily said clinging tighter to Derek’s side.

Roy would never admit it in front of Emily, but Roy hated Derek with a burning passion, how he flaunted the fact that he had Roy’s dream girl, while Derek was an arrogant jackass in Roy’s mind, it infuriated him, but he had to deal with it and act like he did not mind at all. So Roy just faked a smile and walked away into the building, shoulders slumped in defeat.

Roy hated Derek for many reasons, one of the most easily noticeable was the fact that Derek often mistreated Emily, often hurting her and not caring. Several times they had even broken up but Derek played with her emotions too much and had her crawling back to him. Another reason was that Derek was simply a jackass who somehow got Emily to love him, and Roy had no idea how or why, but he hated Derek for it. Although, the more secretive reason that almost no one even knew about was that Roy had strong feelings for Emily and cared for her, perhaps too much.

Roy approached locker 1053, his locker. He sighed and smacked his head off the locker gently, questioning what Emily saw in Derek. Roy sighed again and picked his head up just in time to see Samantha kissing Phil, respectively being one of his best friends, and her boyfriend.

“Hi  Sam” Roy said slightly irritated.

Samantha blushed slightly, her brunette hair sliding over her eyes and cheeks slowly,  just realizing that she was in the presence of people other than Phil.

“Hi Roy” she said softly, holding onto Phil.

Roy liked Phil a bit more than he liked Derek, a lot more actually. Phil treated Samantha right, comforted her, and was actually pretty cool to hang out with. Phil Stood at five foot seven inches, a slight tan seeming to have formed over the summer break, his dark gray short hair seemed slightly strange in contrast with his black jacket and white T-shirt, yet still managed to work somehow; his almost boney frame making him seem like a far weaker person than Roy knew him to be.

“Hey” Phil said kindly, slightly distracted by whatever song was playing on his music player.

Roy took a look at Samantha again, taking in her five foot eight height, her slightly pale skin, her bright blue eyes, and her dark blue shirt and jeans.

“Man, looks like everyone has changed a bit since middle school huh?” Roy asked, trying to distract himself from feeling like he was the only single person he knew, even though it was not completely true, he often felt that way.

“Yeah, have you seen Tank recently?” Phil said with a slight grin.

Tank was one of the few single people that Roy actually knew. His real name was Thomas but he preferred to be called Tank. He was six foot two inches tall, had a strong, muscular frame, short brown hair, and dull green eyes, his muscles were slightly chiseled through his tan skin.

Tank had gotten his nickname for being on the football team, The Mustangs. When he got his hands on the ball, it was game over for the other team, no one could slow him down no matter what they tried, he would just barrel through anything they put up against him.

As Phil mentioned him, Tank roared out a battle cry and gently grabbed Roy from behind and lifted him up.

“DUDE!” Roy screamed quietly in surprise, Tank dropped him, laughing.

“Gotcha man” Tank said, laughing harder than before.

“Yeah, you did” Roy said laughing slightly. He knew Tank was only playing, but they both knew that if they ever got into a fight, it could easily go either way.

Roy opened his locker and put a few books into it, no one except for Roy had any books to put anywhere yet, but Roy’s books were not text books. Roy had a thing about reading more than one book a day, being able to read a three hundred page book in about two or three hours worth of time, so he always made sure he had several books available.

Roy closed his locker and turned around to meet a fist with his nose.

“Great” Roy thought. “it’s Dave”

“Hehehe” an annoyingly smug voice sounded, standing over Roy was a boy, five foot nine inches tall, dark brown eyes, and thick pink skin. It was David, or as Roy thought of him, “the monkey who manages enough English to pass as human”. David was not hairy, but certainly had the manners, and attention span of a simian, although quite a bit less intelligent than one.

Roy opened his eyes just in time to see Tank lift David by the back of his shirt’s collar and tossing him aside like a piece of trash, then seeing Tank’s hand move down to pull Roy up.

“You ok man?” Tank asked annoyed at David, Tank had hated David mostly because as far as he was concerned, David was the kind of person who was cocky, with nothing to be proud of, the person who’s ego makes them feel way bigger than they truly are, and in all honesty, that was David.

After being helped up by Tank, Roy looked at his Schedule.

“Media Production Class, Honors Geometry Course, Dual Course Science , French for Beginners, Engineering : Introductory Level, Lunch, American History, Literary Arts, and Physical Education.” Roy said, reading his schedule aloud.

Roy heard a soft squeal from Samantha.

“We have sixth through eighth periods together!” she cheered happily, excited that she had several classes with Roy.

“Looks like we are stuck with each other in Science man” Tank said jokingly.

“I’ve got nothing” said Phil plainly.

“Well, we’d better head to first period before our teachers flip at us” Roy said and left for the Technological Wing of the school.

“Bye” said Tank, Samantha, and Phil in unison, which slightly scared all four of them.
